History of Petroff Companies

How Petroff became what it is today

In 1975 Steven R. Petroff started the company out of high school as a sole proprietorship with a single axle dump truck hauling various materials for residential and commercial contractors. From 1976 to 1980 he began acquiring multiple tandem dump trucks and began hiring drivers to perform work for highway and commercial contractors. Seeing the opportunity in excavating he also purchased a backhoe and tracked hi-lift loader in 1980 to perform more work for his clients. As an owner operator he did most of the excavating and grading himself. During the mid 1980’s he starting purchasing road tractors and bottom dump trailers for the IL interstate 255 extension through Collinsville, IL. During this time he also added a tracked excavator to his ever growing fleet of trucks and equipment. This piece of machinery changed the scope of his work to now furnishing and delivering large amounts of dirt for the 255 extension. Throughout this time he utilized owner operator trucks to help in the boom of work in the area.1990

In 1990 the company became incorporated with the state of Illinois with Sandra L. Petroff as acting President. During the 1990’s Petroff’s trucks were all over the metro St.Louis area hauling everything from heavy equipment to rock and dirt. Petroff’s also expanded into sub contracting work on road reconstruction projects doing storm sewer and earth work. Throughout gaining more experience the company also started general contracting on smaller road construction projects throughout the area. Today Petroff’s is a prequalified prime contractor for the State of Illinois and employees 50+ personal during the construction season to self perform earth work, storm sewer, concrete construction, asphalt paving, lime soil modification,  and cold pavement milling.
